Dot's Home Live is one of the first instances of a video game being adapted into a live theater production. The story follows Dot Hawkins, a young girl from Detroit, who travels back in time to relive key moments in her family's history that have shaped their legacy. The video game addresses the housing and economic crises in Detroit by engaging audiences who might not typically be interested in these issues. The play was a success, featuring three sold-out shows, and it was later expanded to Chicago and Nashville.
I interviewed the creators of the video game, as well as the actors, directors, and organizers, to document the process of transforming the video game into a play. For this video, I traveled to Detroit, where I coordinated interviews with directors, actors, audience members, and organizers. I also edited, filmed, and narrated the video.
